Speaking as a part-time "lefto" (to reference Genghis' review) I've always rather liked the film, although its not the best work of anyone connected with it.

The critics and other members of the chattering class panned this John Ford movie when it played in the theaters. Now we consider it a top American classic. What is wrong with this picture? Should we always depend on the leftos who dominate the media to set our tastes? The movie starred James Stewart as a tenderfoot lawyer in Wyoming who helps tame the territory with the help of who else--John Wayne. This is the flick where Wayne uses "pilgrim" all the time. Lee Marvin played Liberty Valance and a large troop of John Ford players inhabit the work. You must check it out.

Not only the best western ever- probably one of the top 10-15 movies, period. Lee Marvin's best performance and the closest John Wayne ever came to proving he could actually act, with the possible exception of "The Shhotist". Excellent film.

Very entertaining story. The combo of Jimmy Stewart and the Duke is fantastic. I always watch it when it is shown on AMC or TMC.

Good film, but Wayne was wrong for the part. Should have been played by someone like Burt Lancaster, someone more brooding.
