Howard Hawks made a trilogy with the same theme about a sheriff defending his turf:  Rio Bravo, El Dorado, Rio Lobo, although each had a different twist and in Rio Lobo, the sheriff was the bad guy.   In this flick, Duke, James Caan, Robert Mitchum and others make a marvelous cast.  Give it a view.
