The other evening I turned in early as Mrs. WildYears was watching something that didn't interest me and I had just finished a long day. She slipped into bed an hour later, clearly in the mood and had her way. Afterward, during the moment when in the old days we would have been smoking a cigarette and starring dreamily of into space, she mentioned that she had been channel flipping between Sex in the City and Iron Chef America and when she came upstairs she just had to have it. I still don't know what to make of the Iron Chef America part, I can only assume they were cooking with oysters that night.

Well, being a married man, almost every other movie we see is some type of chick flick (we take turns) that's bad enough but just don't get caught with a tear in your eye during a sentimental scene. Hard to live down. Not that would know, I just heard.

So, as you're browsing the video store, looking for something to rent, she sidles up beside you, whispers a lewd suggestion in your ear, and shows you her movie selection. Say "Terms of Endearment" or its equivalent.

You say "No way, baby, we're watching 'The Great Escape.'"

Righhhhhttt...........

Tell me you're not that dumb, fellas.

For purposes of manly pride I cannot and will not watch a chick flick unless it scores me some points with a woman. Furthermore, I retain the right to tell her that her movie sucked.

I think it's wonderful if a man can watch a chick flick every once in a while. I think he'd be amazed at what he might actually learn about women. Now if those turn out to be his FAVORITE movies, you might have a problem on your hands.

My husband is kind of screwed then.....in a house full of girls who outnumber him greatly.....he's just lucky I will enjoy some of the things he likes too.

This is outragious! No man should EVER watch a chick flick! Now if you will excuse me, I'm gonna get back to watching Terms of Endearment...

you should never limit yourself because you are afraid of the impression you make on others. just be true to yourself. but i might feel a little bit different if you were sitting holding a box of kleenex and sniveling while watching it.

. . .but sometimes we are fooled by the chick-flick-disguised-as-a-guy's movie- see "For the Love of the Game" and the awful "Summer Catch"

I suggested this more out of how some people treat guys who'd rather watch a "chick flick" than an action or scary film. I see nothing wrong with a guy who enjoys this genre, or any genre for that matter. Why some guys worry so much about what others might think of this action, is beyond me. I say, watch it if you enjoy it, all there is to it.

You mean watching a chick flick by your own volition?

I don't see anything wrong with this at all. If us ladies can watch a "prick flick" and no-one batts an eyelash I don't see why guys can't watch a "chick flick".
