If you're in the dominant group you can't experience "reverse" discrimination, because you have the power and can choose to ignore/avoid/change the discrimination.

Discrimination is discrimination, period. It's all wrong and it all has the same intent and origin. I don't buy it when anyone says that they could not get the job, schooling, whatever, you fill in the blanks, becuase of their particular race, ethnic origin or sex. If you have what it takes, any company with brains wants you.

I detest the term, minority, but for the sake of clarity, I'll use it here. As an American of Mexican heritage, a minority, I have never been given a break in life, nor have I asked for one. I don't know anyone that was ever given preference over anyone else, and I know plenty of Mexican Americans. It's an excuse for people trying to justify their own failures or lack of success. Look in the mirror and take resposibility! An older man once told me "We all reach our own level of incompetency" and I think that is where the answer lies.

Yes we all understand that reverse discrimination in an oxymoron. But it ells us what were dealing with. Discrimination is not a good solution to past discrimination. An oxymoron. There is no such thing as reverse discrimination. Discrimination is discrimination. However, I will rate it 5 stars because I understand what is meant by the oxymoron...and, yes, it exists and should be number two on the list...just behind another oxymoron..."reverse sexism".

The vast majority of scholarships out there favor minorites. It is a heck of a lot easier to get money for college and other things if you're not white. Unfortunately, I am. At my high school we have an African American club, Hispanic culture club, Asian American club, and a Phillipino Pride club. That's all well and good, I think it's great to have pride in your ethnic background and know who you are, what bugged me is what happened when I wanted to start a club. I talked to my principal about starting a Caucasion Culture club and he told me it was discriminatory, no way. If that's not reverse discrimination I don't know what is.

An empty term meant to convey an emotionally laden concept without having to show that it is the same as racism. If it was racism then people would call it that, but it isn't, so people call it reverse racism so they can let everyone think that the government has now started to crack down on white males. The term itself implies Hey! We're the ones who are supposed to be racist! Anyway, everyone has these stories in which they just know that it was because the person was a minority that he/she got accepted or hired or whatever. Really I don't believe people have a damn clue what they're talking about and what considerations go into these decisions.

Yeah. Quit hating on my pale ass. I didn't do nuthin' and somehow I am now the devil. What gives? UPDATE: All I know is that minorities and women with my grades didn't have to join the military for school money. Case in point: My GPA was a couple hundreths higher than my sister, who last I checked had the same background racially and economicly as me. She got scholarships, I didn't. But I din't let it screw with me. I worked my ass off and earned everything I have just like she took her scholarship money, applied some grindstone work, and makes more than I do now because she got a head start. Good on her but where's my break?

I'm not a big fan of the term reverse discrimination--it's just another form of racism, there's nothing reverse about it. There's no reason to give it a different name--it's redundant. No one is better or worse, more deserving or less, just on the basis of skin color.

Reverse discrimination is simply institutionalized racism. If it was wrong in the past, IT'S WRONG NOW!!! And, I for one, will not tolerate this behavior from any government.

Don't see much of it except in the metropolitan D.C. area. One of the dirty secrets that no one dares to touch for obvious reasons. But that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. (Other types of discrimination are more prevalent, however.)

Yeah, OK there is some of this around. But in my experience this is an excuse that weak-ass cry-babies use when they don't get the job or promotion they didn't deserve. Face it, folks, sometimes the other guy (or girl) is better than you regardless of colour, gender, sexual preference or whatever.

Affirmative Action,Racial Quotas and College preferences are examples of reverse discrimination.

i really don't like the term reverse discrimination because it suggests that it is more acceptable that other types of discrimination. when certain people get preferential treatement over others, and others are not treated fairly, it is discrimination, pure and simple.

In all my life I have never heard such rubbish. This should go down as one of those observations in life for the hall of shames unseemingly ridiculous rather than an enlightenment. Since someone on here has had a rude awakening to say they're in a particular majority group who feel they've been discriminated against particularly from black people I'll highlight a few facts for them. How many whites have been beaten to a pulp by the police or even in police custody? I don't see that as special treatment as you state, if you ask me thats assault). How many white students have had their applications rejected from major Universities or colleges due to the colour of their skin rather than their academic achievement? Actually why don't you count the number of students present in these universities and colleges. How many times have you been stopped in your nice car by the police without them thinking you earned it illegally? How many senior black politicians are there in the world (I can count them on one hand, if I'm lucky two fingers)? Which race is in the majority? So you tell me how can you be discriminated against?? I urge that the next time you write random pieces of garble that you think before you post.

This is very high on this list for more reasons than I can fit in and not sound like Im rambling. In my opinion it is happening more that ever before. Once again I have to allude to the observation that it exist mostly against White America where the black community is concerned. We have literally tens of organizations both political and non profit that are there strictly to help the black person in our society. I dont know of a single one that is out there going to bat strictly for the 'White folk'. And any body who askes why not is labeled a racist! We dont have White Entertainment Television We dont have a White College Fund. We dont have a NAAWP and so on and so on. I would like to know why these organizations still exist. Do black folk still not have a fair shake in this country? If we as Americans thought they are we would not have them. We are still very much catering to them. We still see companies pressured to hire them even though they may not be qualified more than the next guy no matter what color he is. We definitely hear from the fanatical voices of Al Sharpton, Quanell X and all the other fools like them jumping on any incident where a black man is arrested, pushed, shoved or treated in a way that is not Special and thats what they want, special treatment. The black community still for the most part feels that they are owed something for slavery! UUUGGHH! Will we ever live that down!? Not as long as these organizations I mention still exist. How many times do we hear through the media about a white being mistreated or done an injustice to by a black man or any other race for that matter. Are we to believe that it just never happens? How many employers who are friends of mine tell me they have never fired a black employee without A mile of paper trail to cover there asses because of how many times they have been sued...and lose! In social circles people are afraid to discuss black people at all, positively or negatively because they are so paranoid of how it will be taken. Im am so sick of it. With things going the way they are I dont see how blacks as a group will ever be accountable enough for their own futures if we dont change this in this country.
