 | abichara (62) 02/25/2005 | Fox is just part of this trend we're seeing towards partisaned journalism where a premium is placed on quality reporting and by extention the truth. Journalism in the US has become a political shouting match rather than a legitimate debate on important issues. However Fox has become a powerful force in the industry. So much so that their competitors are unfortunately copying Fox's style, which is largely defined by celebrity, personality and opinion based news. The media seems to be undergoing a profound transformation, one that is more partisaned in nature. It is a shame, for its under these conditions that the media can be used, controlled and manipulated by the powerful. Polarization leads to distortation of the facts; in a pluralistic society, accurate sources of information is key. What is going to happen once that's sacrificed on the altar of higher ratings and sensationalism?

 | LanceRoxas (40) 02/25/2005 | Overrated? Fox is the top rated cable news network in America. Trend .. toward partisan journalism? I find that amusing. This has only come to focus now because for years we had one sided journalism that necessitated no shouting- everyone agreed that conservatism was the ideology of the unenlightened. Now with the advent of talk radio, massive competition in cable news and the internet the truth has increased its avenues to the general public through more heated debate- this is a bad thing? It's a bad thing that there's another network voicing opinions that were excluded for years prior? It's a bad thing that amateur bloggers shine a light on liberal media bias and force them to come clean? I say let CNN be biased all they like and let Jennings, Brokaw, Rather and the sort bicker amongst themselve about how biased Fox is. Fox has forced people to discuss the issues now- all the issues from all the angles- and through this complex discussion the truth shall be revealed.

 | Mr.Political (18) 12/23/2004 | Does it promote itself a lot, yes but for good reason! It's only nine years old and has to compete with the other news channels and broadcast networks who have a lot more viewers! I do get upset when I hear Fox News isn't fair and balanced mainly because it only seems that ways by comparison.

 | Flick01 (71) 09/29/2004 | Liberal activist groups MoveOn.org and Common Cause have filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission that the Fox News slogan Fair and balanced is not descriptive and constitutes deceptive advertising. How absurd! Instead of allowing liberalism to meet conservatism freely in the arena of ideas liberals never miss a chance to undermine free expression of ideas that do not agree with their own. Why don't we hear about MoveOn.org complaining about the liberal slant on every other major news outlet including CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, and Public Broadcasting? They refer to Fox News Channel's reporting as biased and promoting an extreme right wing point of view. I suppose they are so used to Rather / Jennings / Brokaw bias that anything that is down the middle is extreme right wing. Fox was launched with the purpose of providing sanctuary for viewers fed up with the liberal bias of the news media. Fox viewers get to see Republican politicians and conservative pundits sought out for meaningful quotations instead of carefully edited sound bites and right leaning ideas are given fair treatment. Fox's success has made them impossible to ignore as it consistently rates higher than the cable news competition. The accusations against Fox News just highlights the fact that liberals are so devoid of merit and message that the only way to forward their viewpoint is to attempt to smear the right. The fact that these left wingers are so agitated proves that Fox has been effective in capturing the attention and viewership of the American people and is giving them an alternative to the liberal bias that is sacrosanct in the rest of the national media. For decades the Left has had a near monopoly over the institutions of opinion and information which has enabled liberal opinion makers to present their views as Gospel truth, and to sweep aside ideas and beliefs they don't like as if they were beneath contempt, unworthy of argument. But Fox news has helped to change all that. The Left needs to get used to the fact that we now have a real public debate going on and unlike years past, they have to argue their ideas and not just assert them - which means they'll have to make sure they have ideas worth arguing.
