 | shroomy soup (2) 05/31/2006 | The reason the Rams took two TEs is because Brandon Manumaleuna was traded to the Chargers (which is good because he's big and slow who can't stretch the field). Anyway, I will try to review the Rams draft here. With their first round pick, the Rams selected CB Tye Hill who could be the shutdown corner the Rams have lacked for years. He was the best pure cover corner in the draft and he has shown he can handle bigger WRs even though he is only 5'10". With their 2nd round pick, they selected TE Joe Klopfenstein who has the speed and hands to make an impact in the passing game. With the 3rd round pick, the Rams selected DT Claude Wroten. Many believe that he could've been a 1st round pick if he had not been tested positive for marijuana use. Wroten said he won't ever touch that stuff again, and if he keeps his word the Rams may have a good sleeper. In fact, during Rams minicamp, Wroten consistently got into the backfield... With another 3rd round pick, the Rams selected LB Jon Alston who is only 220 lbs, but is very fast and instinctive. With yet another 3rd round pick, the Rams selected TE Dominique Byrd from USC. Scouts say he has great hands and the ability to break tackles. New head coach Scott Linehan likes using double TE sets, so this is also why the Rams selected two TEs in the draft. With their 4th round pick, the Rams selected DE Victor Adeyanju who is said to have all the physical tools to be a good DE in the NFL. He dominated in the Senior Bowl for college players. With their 5th round pick, the Rams selected QB/WR Marques Hagans who might be used as a kick returner. The Rams had three 7th round picks where they used the first one on MLB Tim McGarigle who lacks ideal athelicism but has smarts, hustle, and a good work ethic which are all essential in the NFL. With their next two 7th round picks, the Rams selected Guards Mark Setterstrom and Tony Palmer to add some youth to their offensive line. Palmer is a good value pick who was an All American in college. Overall, the Rams had a great draft addressing most of their needs.
