Mike Shanahan proved to be the best dealmaker of this draft. With a 1st round pick from the Washington Redskins already in hand, he traded a second round pick to Green Bay for Javon Walker, who will instantly shore up the ir depth at WR. Jay Cutler was regarded by many as the best QB in the draft, and I think that the Broncos made an excellent choice in trading up in the 1st round to get him. Yes, they still have Jake Plummer, but Cutler isn't ready to be a starter now either and Plummer isn't getting any younger. At least now the team has their quarterback of the future.

Yeah, Cutler is dangerously overrated as a potential savior, but what is he suppossed to save Denver from? This is a top notch contender, but as far as the draft goes they could have done better. Jake will start next year unless some injury intervenes, so the Jake haters will have to wait to find out that Cutler isn't John Elway either. I think the only good move was trading that draft pick in the 2nd round for Walker, who should be good to go despite that injury.

Culter was the best pick available, and Plummer isn't getting any younger. Culter won't be on the sideline for 5 years as Plummer only has 2 or 3 years left as a top flight quarterback. Not putting Culter into a position where he needs to succeed outright initially well probably help, and the Denver system can also only help a player with so much potential.

Culter well have that time to develop, and he should definitely benefit greatly from it.

Drafting at almost any position in the first round would almost be a similar situation. The only place I can see a person coming into Denver and starting right away is at the DE position or even on the OL, though it is solid; but again, not getting any younger.

They don't need another WR with Smith and now Jevon Walker. Lelie well probably be gone, so maybe a first round WR selection next year would be in order; but they still picked two this year, and though they well need to develop further, both Marshall and the other guy may be solid picks in the middle of the draft.

Tatum Bell is still a young HB, and even if someone like White was taken, it would still probably be a platoon rotation.

The only better pick would be Winston Justice, as their OL is getting older, but, nevertheless, they still addressed the OL with two picks later in the draft. But still, Justice may still not start in that position.

It would have been better if they added to their D-line early in the draft, but I would say that besides the Packers and the Eagles, they may have had the best draft in the league.

A ton of analysts think Jay Cutler may turn out better than Young or Leinart, but he will have a lot to prove after not doing anything in college. It will be several years before Cutler gets his shot, so this draft won't be able to be fully judged until then. The other selections look to be pretty decent.

They say you can't grade a draft until five years from now. But Denver's selection of Jay Cutler has my head scratching. I thought Jake Plummer had a great year last year. What kind of Vote of Confidence is that? And if Cutler was that good, couldn't Vanderbilt have done better than 5-6? Cutler won't help Denver in the near-term, so what sense is there in passing up an exceptional RB like Mulroney for a guy who is going to carry a clipboard for a while.
