BBC America used to broadcast wonderful mysteries, dramas and uniquely British programming. No longer. The vast majority of programming is now mindless reality shows and constant reruns. Actually, most of the programs are positively ridiculous. My Mum Used to be My Dad! My Small Breasts! Good Grief, this is the best of British programming? Save your money and rent the decent British shows from Netflix.

This channel would've gotten a 5 star rating from me like a year ago. Since then they have stopped showing some really good shows. I haven't seen "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" on there in like 4 months, I also never see HEX, or any of the other good ones. Don't worry, there are still a few good ones around, that if you are lucky they will show on the weekends. Like Torchwood, Doctor Who...etc. Now it's mostly Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, My Family, and Coupling....these are still good ones, but I like a little more variety instead of seeing the same 4-5 shows over and over again. But this is still an alright channel.
James76255 01/13/2008
Generally speaking I forget it's there most of the time. I do manage to catch some of the old British comedies I like and I've come across a couple of shows I'd never seen before that are pretty good. Can't say I care much for the dramas.
GenghisTheHun 03/02/2007
If you can't find anything else to watch, this is o.k. sometimes. Some of the older items are excellent. Also, beware, some of the Brit stuff really stinks. Are you into the History of Stilton Cheese for instance?
KBera 06/30/2006
Less Benny Hill though. What happened to Eastenders? Miss that show.
Ih8rateitall 05/11/2006
Awful! I didn't even know that I was watching a comedy show until I looked at my tv guide, not funny. Horrible channel, and where is Mister Bean? I love that show.
the witch 02/28/2006
Great english crime shows, such as Rebus, Wire in the Blood and the best, Touching Evil, along with some of the best british comedies.
bobble-head 10/13/2005
British people think they're so smart!
sfalconer 10/12/2005
BBC America is great Coupling, Father Ted, So Graham Norton and Ground Force. It can be a bit repedative but there are some gems to be found. To all the people who are giving BBC America a bad rating because they no longer show Eastenders. People this is a business and it is all about ratings. Not enough people were watching the show or it was a limited run, you nor I have any idea why it was taken off. You should really be thankfull it was on at all or you may have never been able to see it and it may come back but bashing the channel because a show you like is no longer on is a bit shallow. Do I like all the DIY shows, no but there is a lot on this channel that is worth watching.
Kairho 10/12/2005
Was surprised to see this rated so low. Then I realized that although I stop momentarily when surfing, I very rarely stop to watch anything.
ClassicTVFan47 06/18/2005
Although I must applaud them for their unedited airings of Monty Python and Father Ted--I absoultely abhor their other programming and find it uncreative, harsh, boring, and mean-natured.
MariusQelDroma 10/31/2004
I happen to like Monty Python, and since I'm too cheap to buy DVDs, BBC America is the next best thing. Also gives me yet another news source to balance my view of the world with.
opinion585 10/30/2004
The name in its self it stupid brittish broadcasting corporation-america what loser did that, is there an ABC-Britan?
mindam 08/08/2004
Before Eastenders was cancelled I was a faithful viewer of five or six other shows but I boycotted after that. How long can BBC-A be this bad before somebody gets fired or something gets changed. Are they staying this bad just for spite?
wiley1827 06/14/2004
BBC in UK is awful too. In fact, most TV and newspapers in UK are unworthy of consumption. They create wonderful dramas and comedy but the standard fare is witless tripe or bare chested babes. The Kingdom has fallen, sadly.
VinnyIN 05/17/2004
I watch mainly for Keeping Up Appearances, but then I can watch that commercial-free on my local PBS station.
Saucyjess 04/22/2004
I use to watch BBCAmerica all the time. They use to have great shows on. Eastenders, Ballykissangel, League of Gentlemen, The Young Ones, etc. I stopped watching because that's all they show is Changing Rooms, Ground Force, and House Invaders. I'm so sick of DIY. This channel is garbage now.
kinkykitten 01/26/2004
BBC America are a shower of bastards. Constant repeats (several times a day for christ's sake)of questionable shows, all of them about bloody home decorating it seems. I only bothered to get it at all because I could see Eastenders & the news, but now they've cancelled that I refuse to watch their piss poor shedule anymore. If you need your fix of british tv/news then do as I do and watch your local PBS station. They shouldn't be allowed to use the name BBC...
Tallokas 01/02/2004
How appropriate that this channel is in last place. BBCA used to have interesting and informative shows but no more. Enjoy your rating BBCA!!!!!
viperc2 12/12/2003
Compared to the crap on American TV, this is great. I do agree with most that I have seen enough changing rooms and ground forces. And whoever took off the east enders should be shot! Again, better than American crap but it needs improvement.
tiger260 12/12/2003
Well at the risk of repeating exactly what everyone else is saying BBC America is crap. I am very bitter at BBCA taking Eastenders off the air. I am a Brit ex-pat, married to an American wife, and we both absolutely LOVED EE. Our weekly dose of EE was one of lifes little pleasures - we were both truly upset and bitter when it was axed. When I moved over to the USA over a year ago, we signed up for a cable package including BBCA specifically to get Eastenders. Now that EE is gone, aside from The Office, sadly I can find nothing at all worth watching on BBCA. I had assumed that the BBCA concept would be a sort of showcase of the best of the UK BBC ? but apparently not. It seems to be just a tacky low-brow commercial venture trying to wring some profit out of the cheapest possible programming. I appreciate the fact that many people do like DIY/gardening themes shows ( though personally I hate them ) but surely they dont need to fill the majority of the whole schedule with them. It embarrasses me as a Brit to think that Americans may mistakenly perceive BBCA as the best of British TV. The BBC does produce some very fine TV ( OK, it produces some rubbish too, but a lot of good stuff ) why is so little of the good stuff on BBCA ?
Catboy 11/28/2003
When I first started watching BBC America years ago there was a schedule. Monday drama, Tuesday comedy Wednesday DIY. I forget the details but I was able the plan my viewing around my other programs on other channels. Then they starting moving things around. Showing marathon blocks of one program, showing back to back episodes of the exact same program. Now it's endless repeats of mediocre shows. I never watch it anymore. This is definatley not the best of British television. Not even close. I had a discussion with some friends the other day about what other channel shows as many repeats. We couldn't think of any, not even close. BBC America is the worst channel on television. Start showing some original programming if you want to get some viewers. We do have choices you know.
dublin17 11/24/2003
Big BBC fan in Ireland/UK. But BBC America is a fraud. The only thing that it has in common with the BBC transmitted in the UK/ROI is the name. Its programming is all repetitive DIY shows. I like BBC News but I have PBS and Public Radio for that. Graham Norton can be funny, but they repeat the living daylights out of him. (I know he is not BBC but is the closest this channel gets to British programming). New name : HGTV 24/7, slogan : why use TIVO when you have us, we broadcast the same should 10 times a day
MoJo_in_Pa 11/17/2003
If constantly repetitive DYI programming is your thing, then step right up. If intelligent, creative, British style programming is more your cup of tea, then BBC America is absolutely pathetic. Three thoughts come to mind: The BBC America program director should be working for HGTV; it's too bad the lowest score possible in this poll is 1; if I could seperate BBC America from my digital cable package, I would. As all else has failed since the cancelation of Eastenders, I shall support no BBC America sponsors.
moira 11/16/2003
They removed EastEnders from their line up and chose to inundate us with DIY reruns. Boo.
LadybugMom 11/13/2003
Boo hiss to BBCA for their poor programming and their cancellation of EastEnders in the United States!
Kimij 11/09/2003
Why would anyone cancel the most popular show in most of the world?? If EastEnders had no fans, it's because it had no support from the channel. BBCA....wake up! You show cruddy repeats and nothing new. You are a repeat channel only now. Sad, really really sad.
julie palmer 11/08/2003
nothing but reruns, and when they DO get something worthwhile on, they cancel it.
MelindaJaeb 11/07/2003
Terrible customer service. The BBC America cancelled one of the most popular broadcasts (the EastEnders) without warning. The American public tuned in religously 6 weeks ago, only to see a short on screen notice that in summary, stated "-This is the last show.. although the UK will continue to watch this show,. you can't...sorry Charlie... What kind of treatment is that? The BBCA did set up an online chat to answer questions regarding the sudden death of EE in America, but rather than answer anyone's questions, the questions were simply deleted while the BBCA president simply repeated, like a broken record, the same prepared press release. Very frightening organization. One that ignores it's loyal fans and audience; that is simply, a poor, poor reflection of public realtions.
sunflowerbob 11/07/2003
Repeate after repeate after repeate of stupid shows
jamEEfan 11/06/2003
I have watched this channel go from wonderful to terrible. In the past year this channel has become a broadcaster of endless DIY show instead of the wonderful dramas and comedies that BBC produces. I don't see how the BBC can continue toallow BBCA to use their name when they have become just another Discovery Channel.
Daccory 11/06/2003
I agree that hardly any of the best of the BBC programmes are shown over here, but do you know what? I'm glad East Enders was cancelled. I can't stand the show and would like it removed from the schedules in the UK too! A sad indictment of the educational level of most people who watch it.
gilliantelfer 11/06/2003
This channel used to be great, but bad management and cost cutting has meant that it has been transformed into a mess. Major programs such as Eastenders and Ballykissangel have been dropped, (with over 14,000 people signing the dropping of Eastenders on www.saveeastenders.com), and now repeats after repeats of DIY are shown. This is not the BBC, and it should be ashamed of itself.
imbanks 11/06/2003
Haven't watched BBCA since the cancellation of Eastenders the only current program they had. Tired of endless repeats of Changing Rooms, Ground Force, etc., Who needs a whole night viewing of those 2 programs ?
susanlomas 11/05/2003
Awful, repeats, repeats repeats, the only program worth watching was EASTENDERS, then they cancelled that too! I haven't watched since 9/27/03 and won't watch again. Even if they bring back EASTENDERS, I won't watch, I get it taped by my mum in uk and watch it when I go home who need BBC America, a load of jerks, good riddance!
mortyd 11/05/2003
the english have not been right about anything - they still drive on the wrong side - since king george let his colonies in america go - just keep that in mind while listening to them pretend objective wisdom.
kolby1973 11/05/2003
Thank you for finally cancelling that nightmare they called EASTENDERS..complete trash TV.
Nikkiharper 11/04/2003
BBCAmerica suck for cancelling Eastenders
hugh jarse 11/04/2003
Absolutely gutted that Mr Bernath can take a perfectly respectable channel, and systematically remove such benchmark English shows like Casualty,Top of the pops ,Eastenders,Royle family and replace them with home and garden shows ,yet still advertise BBCA as being the cream of English TV.There is a reason why BBCA is rated so low, wake up and smell the roses,or stay in the hole that you have created.
Aneetchkoo 11/04/2003
I have completely lost respect for a station that has complete disregard for its viewing audience. Despite the ongoing protestations from devoted viewers of "EastEnders", BBC America still has not admitted their error in removing this very valued show from it's lineup, nor have they made any attempt to bring it back in a different time slot BBC America is now boycotted by myself and my friends.
feersumenjiin 11/04/2003
BBCA are a bunch of cheeky blighters and deserve to be the worst rated TV channel, have watched this once half decent channel descend into the depths over a period of 3 years. It used to have variety with it's programming but now they appear to have some character called Bernath at the helm who seems to only like DIY shows and repeats them at every opportunity. I wish I was getting paid what he does for the abysmally poor unimaginative programming that he foists upon the viewing public. Here is an example of what he calls programming for Tuesday 4th November: November 4, 2003 7:00 pm ET Ground Force 7:30 pm ET Changing Rooms 8:00 pm ET Ground Force 8:30 pm ET Ground Force 9:00 pm ET Changing Rooms 9:30 pm ET Changing Rooms 10:00 pm ET Changing Rooms Pathetic!
vbrowning 11/04/2003
BBC America has cancelled the only show worth watching - Eastenders. We haven't tuned into BBC America since 9/27 (last date it was aired) and don't plan to unless EE returns. Their shows are constant reruns of the same garbage - we are so dissapointed in this channel!
bring back EE 11/04/2003
used to be a wonderful channel with very varied programmes, now is constant reruns of old shows
Sharon F 11/04/2003
The worst thing they could have done was to remove Eastenders. What terrible foresight on their behalf. Bring it back....now!!!
xtine 11/04/2003
Used to enjoy the channel but the constant DIY shows and now the abrupt cancellation of EASTENDERS just about the only thing worth watching has caused me to cancel my Digital cable and never see BBCA again.
dolly88 11/04/2003
BBC America - you suck. You take away not only our favorite show, "Eastenders", and replace it with endless repeats of boring DIY, then you trample on our civil rights -- freedom of speech -- going against everything America stands for. David Bernath/John Ashcroft...separated at birth????
EastendersFan1 11/04/2003
BAD decision on removing Eastenders: signals contempt for the station's most loyal viewers and a lack of interest in providing original programming. Viewer feedback was not solicited before the decision to cancel. There is no "value-added" to the banality of cable/satellite choices by choosing to focus on seemingly neverending re-runs of shows that appeal only to the occasional viewer.
ace007 11/04/2003
The DIY and re-run channel. Could be SO much better.
lynnie mac 11/04/2003
This network has become a miserable failure. Discovery is supposedly in charge of programming but both networks pass the buck without real commitment to viewer concerns. The removal of EastEnders was the final straw. BBCA has gone from being my absolute favorite network to not watching it at all......in just 5 years.
susanannha 11/04/2003
To take away eastenders with no notice and not give it another chance in a different timeslot shows no consideration for the loyal fans. Who makes the decisions there anyway...Sadam? They suck
