Anyway, since a phaser operates on the principal of the speed of light, a phaser is generally useless over the speed of light. I assume if the ship was going warp 2, the phaser energy couldn't leave the generator. That is were the photon torpedo came it. It was the weapon to be used when the ship was exceeding the speed of light.
