Lol. Come on now. It is not President Bush's fault the people of Palm Beach county are morons and can't follow simple directions. Further, it is not his fault that the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that he won the election! Ever notice there always has to be a reason why the Dems lost? They could never lose a fair election!

Not as much Bush's fault...this party seems to be able to do only one thing successfully...or fraudulantly...win elections.

I guess I'm so jaded that this just never made much of an impression on me. I know people were, and are, justifiably upset over this, but this issue just never made much of an impression on me. It was almost expected, sort of a political anti-climax. After all, I'm from NJ, the state of machine politicians like Jersey City's "Grand Poobah" Frank "I Am The Law" Hague (my grandmother always loved him and wasn't willing to hear a word against him because he built the charity hospital that saved my uncle during the Depression from diptheria, a disease un-heard of today), Republican Joe Bozzo of Paterson (friend of mobsters Willie Moretti and Longy Zwillman), and Nucky Johnson of Atlantic City. The difference is...these machine-politicians, whatever their flaws, actually helped those denizens, citizens and voters who belonged to the underclass. Obviously, they were buying votes, but they actually helped real people. Bush helps the oil companies. Me, I'd rather we were living 50 years ago.

A resounding success!! From brother Jeb, Katherine Harris and all the way up to The Supreme Court, everybody involved in that whole charade played their roles brilliantly! A perfect example of how those right wing nudnicks are actually capable of working like well-oiled machinery when it comes time to making their power-grabs and hoodwinking the most gullible people in the western hemisphere: Americans. So, bravo to you Dear Leader and to your minions, for pulling off, and getting away with, the biggest heist since Lufthansa. And shame on Florida voters for making it close enough for him to get away with it.

Psst. Al Gore's boys tried to have thousands of military absentee ballots thrown out for no reason other than they were heavily favoring Bush. If you think I'm lying, I read that in the Stars and Stripes.

Certainly events in FL did turn in Bush's favor. Those were a surreal few weeks, as the nation and the world awaited the final vote count which would decide whether Al Gore or George Bush would become President. In the final analysis, the legal mess that ensued became did not have to be. Both sides mishandled the situation. Gore dug his own grave by insisting that only certain counties which voted for him overwhelmingly be recounted manually, so as to inflate his own vote tally against Bush. FL state law mandates an automatic recount in instances when an election comes down to a 1/10th of 1 percent margin, which it did in 2000 in FL. All what Gore had to do was go through the normal procedure of having all the votes counted, and probably would have come out on top. Ironically, independent sources, from professors to newspapers, after verifying the final vote count, confirmed that Gore would have won if all the votes had been counted according to FL state law. Instead, Gore's "cherry picking" which voters to count ended up provoking George Bush into suing the Gore campaign on the grounds that they violated the Equal Protection rights of voters to have their votes counted by the same standard in every county. Gore managed to make an issue out of other things in defending the suit, such as the "chad" issue, in addition to some other jurisdictional claims between the counties. There were claims that the ballot was confusing in some counties like Palm Beach, with their notorious "butterfly" ballot, and there were legitimate claims of voter intimidation of minorities in Northern Florida by local police and officials, but at the end of the day, the Equal Protection issue carried the day for Bush in the Supreme Court. Ironically the justices who sided with Bush are usually not strong proponents of the Equal Protection argument in other cases... At the end of the day, we have to remember that this is politics. There were no good guys or bad guys, just a lot of wrangling and back room dealing on the part of both the Bush and Gore campaigns.

It seems to me the system worked exactly as it should have worked. Democracy decided the election, according to the rule of law. I can't imagine another democracy in the world that could have handled such a tight election as peacefully and legally as we did. And I'm not sure what Bush had to do with this?

"Failer" in terms of ethics, but I don't know if Bush himself is to blame. 5 members of the supreme court are to blame for presuming to hold the Florida court responsible for failing to rewrite the law to create a "safe harbor" provision. It was worse than judicial activism. It was a non-violent coup. And the country is as divided as it has been in decades.

Not dubya's fault. . .it was shady at best, but the people stood for it. Sheep need to be led.

This scam was extremely successful for Bush.Just imagine the outcry had Gores brother been Governor of the state where the crucial and contested results hung.Imagine if rich, white neighborhoods had had the problems that poor, black neighborhoods had in tallying their votes. The Republicans would NEVER have let it rest, and for that I give them CREDIT!Shame on the Democrats for their spinelessness!
GenghisTheHun 05/05/2006
I for one hope sincerely that the Republicans stole the election in Florida. Throughout history, the Democrats have stolen countless elections and deserve to get it stuck to them once in a while!

If the left keeps harping on this non issue as I suspect that they will, they will not acheive the gains that they anticipate. It is 2006.GIVE IT UP!
