A very accomplished characterization of a not so ethical executive underling at an insurance company acquiring a sense of committment, typical bittersweet social commentary from director Billy Wilder and scriptwriter I.A.L. Diamond, who was and would be Wilder's frequent and most effective collaborator in 'Love in the Afternoon’ (1957), ‘Some Like it Hot’ (1959), ‘One, Two, Three’ (1961); ‘Irma La Douce’ (1963); ‘Kiss Me Stupid’ (1964); ‘The Fortune Cookie’ (1966); ‘The Front Page’ (1974), in four of which Lemmon was cast, to good success with the exception of ‘The Front Page.’ ‘Sunset Boulevard’ (1950) had been a collaboration between Charles Brackett, Wilder and D.M. Marshman, jr.
