Leviathan vs. Discourse on Inequality. These figures represent the polar opposites of pholosophies of human nature, one arguing that civilization and authority (as represented by absolute manarchy, but the philosophy could be broadened) provide the potential for good, while the other argues that civilization has created more problems than it has solved.
Is civilization itself the product of nature, or rebellion against it?
