A very eloquent statement generally accepted in principle, but rarely applied as a practicality.

Gullibility is a fast track to extinction.Without a probing intellect, one is an easy mark for the unscrupulous-who are legion.

mencken was right on this one. any belief in the same system throughout the history of the world: religion, politics, etc has shows an unwillingness to progress. the readiness to doubt allows for further thought. something that's losing weight rapidly in the modern world, unless it's a way to download music faster. one look at the current crusade being fought against the US and the MIddle East is proof how far we've not come adhering to ancient beliefs.

There's nothing wrong with a little bit of healthy cynicism. In fact, it is a prerequisite for a healthy, pluralistic society.
