David Carradine as Kwai Chang Caine is probably second only to Bruce Lee in terms of influencing young Martial artist. This was not a typical western and was a very well written show. It has since become a cult classic. It was a great show.

I love this show. The fight scenes were not that great, but he always tried not to fight, and was always dragged into one. I saw the first season on dvd and found myself watching as if for the first time. I'm sure it was one of the first tv shows to try showing us eastern philosophy--chopped up as it was--to make us think outside the ususal box of the 'tv western', and to show us what its like for the outsider.

It's in my Top-10 list of all-time favorite shows. Yes, it was a western, but my brothers and I watched for the same reason we watched The Green Hornet -- we wanted to see some Martial Arts. Though the martial arts were actually kind of cheesy (it always seemed they did a lot of it in super slow motion and we would laugh when Kwai Chang Caine would yell "EEEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGG GHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"in the slo-mo scene). My favorite scenes were the flashbacks where "Grasshopper" was back in the Shaolin temple. I think every young man should spend a couple of years with Shaolin monks.
