Like the legendary American boxer Muhammad Ali, Muhamed had a long and difficult road. A devout Muslim, Muhamed credited his faith with his success. Boxing pundits also credit it with his downfall as he insisted on honoring the call to prayer, even mid-match. Muhamed's less sporting, non-Muslim opponents usually knocked out Muhamed whilst he adjusted his prayer rug in the middle of the ring or paused to ask the ref which direction Mecca was.

And no apology is enough for the unfairness of having arbitrarily taken away from him for four years the title that he held and in which he was so accomplished. And we, the boxing fans, also, were denied a phenomenal experience. Still, he made it back on top, despite all the bigotry, persecution and adversity. Don't know that I would have dealt with it equally as well. An extraordinary individual.
