She has been one of the best. Not THE best, but definitely right up there.

Mom taught me almost everything that I didn't get from the Marines. All the good stuff, in other words.

The hardest-working person I've ever known. The value of education, the sense of justice. . .I could go on and on. Oh, the Motown music influence is worth mentioning. . .

My parents married late in life and I was their only kid, and frankly I don't think my mother at fifty something had a clue what to do with her rowdy teenage son. We could barely talk without shouting until I was twenty. By the time I was an adult, she was an old lady. We were friends before she died, but it was a long time coming.

My Mother has always been the biggest influence in my life. I'm fifty now and she's seventy-five and she still continues to share her wisdom with me AND guidance, if she feels I need it. When I was a kid, she never cut me any slack, and she never took any crap. In fact she still doesn't

Facing and overcoming adversity, my mother single-handedly raised me in an environment and situation we were stuck in. She still does not know how remarkably strong she is.

I've written elsewhere on this website about how much my mother means to me. She has faced such adversity, from losing her parents at a very young age to the loss of her first husband that preceded several violent relationships. Despite it all, she has risen above it and made a good life for herself and our family, and I admire her greatly for that.
