You know, looking back on it, now almost fifty years ago, this must be where I went wrong.

The essay's title was "How do you plan your future." I told them how I rely primarily on the prophecies of Nostradamus, and in a really tight spot I referred to the old 8-Ball globe that you would shake up and wait for the answer to appear at the bottom to answer my questions.

I always wondered why I never heard back from them!

The Admissions Essay is a very important part of your application. Your GPA and test scores are also really important, but the essay is the aspect of the application which sets you apart individually from the rest of the crowd. In it, you should write about why you want to attend the university which youre apply for, specifically, what does it offer that will be of benefit to you later in life. Focus on how you'll apply your academic work to the "real world", or how your unique interests will further scholastic discourse within your program. The more specific you are, the better it is, for an admissions advisor will see that as the sign of someone who's motivated. Some people encourage you to write about your struggles in life, and other personal details. That obviously should only be used to show a positive character trait like perseverance or courage. You should use that only to highlight a separate point. Also, don't get too dramatic on that part of the essay, for itll be very obvious. Try to be as concise as possible. And finally, of course, check for spelling and grammar errors. It will look very bad on you if you have 5 errors a page.
