I didn't spend a lot of time in Provincetown, but it doesn't take long to understand what the area is about. The drive into town is breathtaking with the towering dunes of Cape Cod National Seashore rising along Route 6. The town itself is very dense with historic buildings and small, narrow streets. Provincetown is filled with plenty of interesting shops and restaurants, and the harbor area is beautiful. My family went on a whale watching trip out of the harbor, and it was an absolutely great time that I definitely recommend to others. I'm not a boater, but it seemed like an incredible destination for boaters and fishermen. The town is obviously a gay destination, so a visitor who has a problem being in that environment should be aware of that. However, if a person enjoys being in a unique environment with an eclectic crowd, Provincetown would have to grab your attention.

Provincetown is a great place to visit. It has a warm and open atmopshere which is really refreshing. The town has a wonderful gay population and a charm that is all its own! Everyone in the town is super friendly! Beware parking is a huge pain in the ass, and it takes a few hours to get there since its at the end of the Cape! However, its a fantastic place!

They don't call it the "San Francisco of the east" for nothing. Gives me the willies when I go there. I don't have a problem with the LBGT community, as I have several friends that are.

OK I'm going to let the cat out of the bag here. Provincetown is Americas premier gay resort town. It's not exclusively gay but a large gay presence is prevelant in PTown. Magellan is right, it is a lot like Key West like my previous description and it's one of those towns at the end of the road. This is the very tip of Cape Cod so there are constant breezes from the ocean and the smell of salty air is very intense. PTown has a very fun atmosphere with many shops and restaurants. It has Cape Cods best nightlife and people watching there is a hoot. There are several beaches to chose from around town as much of the area is preserved within the National Seashore with sanddunes galore. Bring your camera.

Provincetown is about as good as it gets on the Cape for restaurants, nightlife, and culture. It's a pretty, quaint little town, sort of like the Northeast's answer to Key West - in more ways than one.
