They're hard to mike,and even harder to play (you'll get some "Popeye" forearms playing one of these)-but nothing else has that sound.Listen to the old Chess Records (Muddy Waters,Howlin Wolf,etc.) and you'll likely hear Willie Dixon throwing down on the Upright Bass.
