You can't say that a person who courted death for the entire duration of his brief, meteoric career had a tragic passing. Part of our fascination with him was the fact that he walked along a knife edge for as long as he did.

After probably trying every drug known to man, and heavily drinking and smoking, his death wasn't too shocking.

Sort of tragic in that there is an element of fascinating tragedy to anyones determined course of self destruction. But tragic in the sense that you couldn't see this coming? Not at all.

Yeah tragic to some degree but hardly a shocker. I regard the band as a good but somewhat overrated one- certainly above average : with some great music and some inscrutable and/or boring stuff...Speaking of tragedies, a lot of people don't seem to be aware of this, but they carried on as a trio for a couple of albums without replacing Jim. Now THOSE albums were tragedies...

C'mon. . .the Doors had some good music, but Morrisson was an egomaniacal frontman and a horse's ass who cared nothing for the fans. . .dead junkie with some charisma, next. . .

5 star tragedy and quite ironically I tend to think this was an incidence of poetic justice. Our lives would all be a little richer if he was still around... But if you have ever read his poetry (the poems not mixed to music) you would know he never really walked amongst us anyways. He was on a higher spirtual plane and I can identify with his abuse of drugs and alcohol to find his way home. I wish he had been able to stick around to continue evolving with his music because I dont think we had seen his best to come. So interesting how mystery and scandal still shroud his name. He probably left a better legacy to us in his death than he could have if he had lived on to suffer in this world

After Hendrix and Joplin died,Morrison himself was quoted as saying,"You're drinking with number 3".Even though he knew he'd die young, and even though he flirted with death in any number of ways,Morrisons death is a 5 star tragedy for anyone who loves good Music, literature,or film.Had he lived,he'd probably have produced some great work in at least those genres. He was a brilliant man and a great soul.Adding to the tragedy of his death is the strong probability that he accidentally snorted Heroin because his junkie girlfriend lied to him and said it was cocaine.(Read Linda Ashcrofts Book-"Wild Child" for a more detailed and intimate view of him (and his death)than any other book.)
