This was a tragic death. It was the kind of thing where she was too much for the world. I liked that biography where it said one day she must have looked at a star or something and it changed her and produced that. She was a real talent. She was also an individual. I did use to have her record and I play it. I had to leave it and I have it on Youtube now. She is also one of the people that "Tony" of Uriah Heep told me that he knew when I met him in NYC.

That she died before getting back together with Big Brother is the real tragedy here. Record company dweebs who convinced her to record with boring studio musicians deserved to die before she did.

My apologies to her legion of fans- but this is one overrated musical death. . .yes, Joplin had one or two good songs, but I've always felt she was wildly overrated. . .

Janis Joplin was perhaps the greatest Blues singer the caucasian race ever produced. She was AUTHENTIC,she lived the Blues, just like Bessie Smith (who had the most tragic death of any musician ever)did.Yes,she drank like a fish and did dope.(So did almost every great musician of her era). The Tragedy here is,we had a brilliant singer,a very kind-hearted woman,too-and she was so lonley in her soul that she felt it necessary to drown herself in booze and downers.Success and money were not enough to lift her out of her misery. While she was alive, she turned her bitterest sorrows into music that will forever speak to anyone who "has the blues".I hope she's in a better place, and still singing!
