A great classy player was showcased in D. Wade. Considering it's the NBA, that's a refreshing change of pace.

Significant in the fact that Dwayne Wade registered as best player in the league. Significant in the fact that two new teams contended for the title (thank stars there were no Spurs v. Pistons, where there's less scoring that a World Cup match). But from my perspective, the Finals were unwatchable due to the absurdly late start. I think I watched about 10 minutes of the whole series, and don't recall anyone putting the ball in the hoop.

I can't say that I'm suprised at all, especially when you consider the ease with which they manhandled the Pistons in the ECF. In fact, I would have been more suprised had the Mavs won. The dawn of Wade as a bonafide superstar has arrived, combine that with a hungry Shaq desperate for one more title, and bit players who stepped up when it mattered the most(Mourning, Haslem, Payton etc.) and you have a sure-fire recipe for playoff domination. Unfortunately, Shaq and Mourning both turn 90 next year, so their title reign shall be short-lived, I believe. Although Wade will keep them competitive for many years to come. Scary that he's still so young...

This was a pretty big sports story. Two of the bigger names in the NBA, Riley and Shaq, won another title. However, the real star of the series was Dwyane Wade, who took the step from great player to superstar. It looked like Nowitzki was about to make the jump as one of the legendary players in the NBA, but Wade was able to lead his team back from 2 games down, and had everybody forgetting about what Dirk had done throughout the rest of the playoffs.

This probably isn't a particularly noteworthy story in the scheme of things, but it was special in the way that the Heat came back to win the series. Miami was dead. Down 2-0, trailing by 13 points with 6 minutes left, on their home floor. Then weird stuff started happening. Shaq, almost impossibly, made two clutch free throws. Udonis Haslem had an improbably steal on an entry pass to Dirk. Dirk missed a free throw. And Dwyane Wade continued to show that he may already be the best player in the league. I don't think I ever remember a series that turned so dramatically in 6 minutes. Miami went from a team on the verge of being swept, to a four game blitzkrieg of Dallas. I think the moment it turned was when Shaq hit those free throws.
