More about politicians and people in power in General than the bogus "conservative or liberal" dichotomy.I think that's the real point of the song.People paint themselves as "liberal" or "conservative",and then go ahead and do the same bloody thing:cater to the status quo.

Pete Townsend was reportedly offended that this song was on a "conservative song" list. He says it was against politics in general, not one particular ideology.

Thing is, the context was the political counterculture of the time. It may have universal meaning, but it was aimed at leftists.
