If you don't, they might key your car. ;]

I heard its more like protection money for your car. The nicer the car, the more you should tip.

The don't have valet parking at the IHOP so I'm not really sure what the rule is.

It bothers me to pay the $5.00 valet company charge and then have to tip the valet too. I like complimentary valet service where the driver gets all the money

If your rig comes back and not dented or mashed, a tip in thankfulness is in order.

If you can actually park my piece of s*it and then are still willing to retrieve it, then here's $20...it sure beats the $65 towing charge.

God, I hate the Valet. . .but I always tip because it is a legal hostage situation where my property is concerned. . .

Definitely yes, I had friends who valeted in college and I've heard the stories of how they treated cars who did not tip.

If I ever were in a situation to have a valet parking attendant move my car, then yes. But those situations are very rare (I haven't had to yet personally). If we used valet parking, it was because my parents were driving. But, if I ever have to, sure.

Besides your home, your car is probably your most valuable possession. So I would tip a person who is reponsible for watching over your valuable possessions.
