This West African country was founded for freed USA slaves. A big batch of freed slaves was settled there. The former slaves promptly enslaved all the native Africans they could get their hands on and they and their descendants ran and looted Liberia for the next 15o years.

The native Africans got sick of the ascendancy of the former slave aristocracy and overthrew them in the 1990's.

The country sank into a savage civil war and has declined to the point where the average per capita income is about 250 dollars a year in the hole.
