A great man, a great leader, a great innovator and the author of one of the most successful offenses of all-time, the West Coast Offense. He will go down as one of the top 5 coaches of all-time.

Bill Walsh was a great coach. I would say he ranks up there in the top two because the only other coach I would consider as good as Walsh was Vince Lombardi. Both great leaders, got the best out of their players, created new innovations during their eras. Out of this list though Bill Walsh was by far the best.

A protege of the great Paul Brown, Bill Walsh was the chief innovator and architect of the so-called 'West Coast' offense. A coach with an eye for talent, Walsh drafted Hall of Fame greats Joe Montana, Ronnie Lott, Jerry Rice and Charles Haley; and picked up future HOF Steve Young from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. More importantly, Walsh engineered the San Francisco 49er's Super Bowl victories (XVI, XIX and XXIII). The greatest? Well? There is an argument for either side as to whether Walsh actually was. However, there is not much argument as to whether he is modern football's most influential as his coaching tree boasts luminaries such as Mike Holmgren, Mike Shanahan, Ray Rhodes, George Seifert, Dennis Green, Mike White and Jeff Fisher.

A great great coach. Invented a system, and a language that revolutionized offense.
