Don't Speak is proof that a talent-less band can occassionally have a productive moment. It is literally the only good No Doubt song.

I liked this when it was new. Very emotional angst ridden little ditty, which spoke volumes to a lot of young girls at its peak.

I got really tired of this song after hearing it twice. The band had much better songs later in their career.

Don't Speak (No Doubt) 4

1995 was apparently the year of the pissed-off women singers with Gwen Stefani belting out singles like "Don't Speak" and "Just a Girl" and Alanis Morissette offering up a jagged little pill. While No Doubt's "Just A Girl" was clearly recorded to increase the group's chance at popularity, it's this single that ultimately got the most attention and will have the longest shelf life (as Stefani exhibits more vocal talent and the sound is less dated today). As the other comment noted, Gwen ultimately became bigger than the music, resulting in the band never really repeating the quality of "Tragic Kingdom" (the album from which the single was released). "Don't Speak" charted in the U.S. for 52 weeks in 1996/7 (peaking at #1).

Great song by this excellent band.. from a time before Gwen Stefani got all caught up in her own "coolness" and uber-chic persona.
