About 3.5, a rather fast, bluesy thing with a country tinge to it as well, and nice, rollicking piano on this number from his excellent "Tumbleweed Connection" album. It is an Old West themed song, a song that tells a simple story of a dispute and violence over money. Lyrically, it was not unlike the work of The Band, who were the primary influence on the main themes and styles of that record. Spooky Tooth did a slowed down, even bluesier, somewhat swaggering version with horns on their 4th album "The Last Puff," which actually predated Elton John's own rendition by about 6 months, it came out in mid-1970- it's certainly different, but the difference in quality was neglible, the two versions are equally good. Not a great tune, but a good one.
