The average person, and many a pundit and self-proclaimed expert, has no concept of what goes on to hammer out a law or a bill. What deals get cut, what throats get cut, what compromises are made.
Its easy to sit in the bleachers and say it shouldn't work like that, but politics is the art of the possible, and takes place on a rugged and implacable playing field.
