Bismarck was really the first statesman who recognized that the economic system had to provide some security for the working man. Imperial Germany was by far the first to have a social system in such vein.

The socialists have wrecked the Bismarckian system by pushing it too far and using it to buy votes. That is always temporary and leads to national ruin.
