Archie Bunker 5

I've had run ins with racist flamers who actually believe he was some kind of hero. They just don't get the point that O'Connor/Lear were satirizing ignorant bigots. It's kind of funny, but also sad. Anyway, it was a great show with a wonderful cast, and Archie is an Archetype ( bad pun ).

OK, we've finally reached some real TV characters. Archie Bunker was great. I'd watch old reruns of "All in the Family" before just about anything on TV these days.

His mispronunciations were hilarious.Who could forget "Afri-ganistan", "Jew-rusalem" and the "Tinkle down theory" of economics.By making the ignorance of bigotry so hilariously obvious,Archie Bunker enlightened as well as entertained.

Probably the most memorable television character in history. His chair is now in the Smithsonian Museum.

HILLARIOUS....In todays politically correct world...no way in hell he could have gotten away with the racial slures he used to use.  Everyone knew that it was just in good humor,  and its what made the show funny!  People are just too sensative these days.  Most of the time Archie's thinking was crazy,  then other times he made sence (in a crazy way lol).  As he would argue with the the big time liberal Mike "the meat head".

Funny portrait of a common American type-sometimes funny, often obnoxious, but mostly harmless-at least outside the voting booth. Archie on Affirmative Action: "Archie reads off the names on the slate he's voting for: Tore, Feldman, O'Reilly, Nelson; that's an Italian, a Jew, an Irishman and a regular American. That's what I call a balanced ticket!"

A test of a great character is that he is remembered today and by a generation that was not even living at the time that the show aired. Here is one of the top ten characters of all time. Some of the "Bunkerisms" make the PC atmosphere wince today, but as Arch would say, "I don't care."
