A great representative song of its era, that has outlasted songs that sold better at the time but have since been forgotten, like "I Ran". Ironically, Modern English probably hated having to play it every night because it was nothing like the rest of their repertoire.

A great song that was played on radio and MTV back in the day. The world just was not quite ready in 1983 as the song never got past 78 or so on the Hot 100. The songs revival in later years was well deserved. It touched a nerve with many people. I fondly remember hearing it in it's prime during a 1983 snow storm. Beautifully surreal!

"I Melt With You" (1982) is another one of those one hit wonders that was not a popular "hit" since the single did not actually reach the Top 40 (as least not in the U.S.). Nevertheless, the song is considered a new wave and early MTV classic and is instantly recognized by anyone of the 80's and subsequent generations. Further exposure came from the movie "Valley Girl" (1983). As further testament to the long-term influence of "I Melt With You", the song has been covered recently, namely Good Riddance and Mest (highly recommended).
