Tom Tom club, with Tina Weymouth (bass) and Chris Franz from Talking Heads put out several GREAT albums.I liked them better than Talking Heads,in fact. They were funkier and funnier.I think "Wordyrappinghood" was on the same album-that was hilarious."Genius of Love" brings back really good memories and still sounds fat on some nice speakers.

A friend told me the other day that there is a blatant cocaine reference in this song. That makes it seem a little less innocent. Regardless, it is an amazing song. The harmonies are so quirky and the lyrics keep you wondering what's next.

The Tom Tom Club was essentially a side project of Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth of the Talking Heads, and "Genius Of Love" (1981) was the only song from the project to make any real noise, but it was loud and had a groundbreaking video for the day. The strength of this single is evidenced by the number of times the song has been sampled by other artists (e.g. Grandmaster Flash and Mariah Carey). Moreover, the song is instantly recognized and has been used in several (okay at least one) commercial. Though "Genius Of Love" originally charted for a mere 4 weeks, peaking at #31 in 1982, the long term influence of this song cannot be denied.
