Jane's Getting Serious (Jon Astley) 3

Though "Jane's Getting Serious" didn't break the top 40 in the U.S. (#77 in 1987), Jon Astley's quirky single did get enough MTV exposure to merit consideration for this list. As the song was released during the waning years of new wave, it's no surprise that the single didn't fare better, with its jotty bass and synths and its near novelty song lyrics. Moreover, Astley's day job was as a producer, so his vocal talents were obviously limited. Nevertheless, while most listeners probably haven't heard or don't remember this tune, I recall "Jane's Getting Serious" with a smile, and the single still gets an occasional iPod click.
