I live in a city where public transportation is a joke so when I am in DC I am in heaven. The Metro is amazing. Clean and on time. It runs just about anywhere you need to go in DC so if you visit you can just buy a Metro pass for your journey! I love the Metro!

This train goes REALLY fast! I recall going from one end of town to the other in 10 minutes.

Simple enough for people new to town, like me, though as expensive as BART. The stations are truly space age in design. I have heard from residents, though, that the frequency of shutdowns due to various perceived threats is growing.

I was impressed by the cleanliness and presumable safety I felt on Metro. Most times when it comes up in conversation I've found that others share the same feelings.

Collapsing tunnels, fires, bomb scares every time someone forgets a bag of groceries, overcrowded cars and platforms during rush hour and even worse during major events, and late or non existant trains. What else could you ask for, the Metro has it all!

It's safe, and the prices have jumped in recent years. Was once 4-stars back in the mid-to-late 90's has slipped into 3-star territory. . .additional population has caused a strain on a system that needs far more quality maintenence work. . .there are far too many escalators out on any given day. . .Metro isn't bad, but you have to count on it letting you down on a day when you really need it.

Probably the best Mass Transit System in the USA. it's rather new ( started in the late 60's) so the stops are newer, modern and the cars are newer than in many other cities. Still this system is excellent. The rides are smooth. They run frequently and usually show up on time. The cars are so clean, they can afford to use carpeting in them. Air Conditioning is set just right in the summer. Goes just where you need to and the maps/descriptions on where to go are simple and effective. Even tourists can use The Metro with little trouble. Little problems include getting mixed up at times on which side to go to when train approaches, using cards for Metro sucks because it's a paper card that can get damaged. Doesnt run 24 hrs a day.

The best mass transit I've ever experienced. Clean, immaculate, modern, fast, safe, and extensive. What more could you ask for?

The metro is an ok system. On the floors of the subway trains actually have RUGS how cool is that. At each station it tells you how long it is going to be until a train gets to your station where its going and what line it is on an LED sign. The bad thing is there is only one on each platform. Instead of a boring yellow line I like how they have flasshing lights to tell you to STAY BACK. The system is clean. But they do not allow food or drinks. That's harsh I guess poor innocent people can't have a nice cup of coffee on their way to work. Or a snack after work if you're hungry. Lastly if you don't see LED signs at the stations how are you going to know what color line the trains are all Metro trains are brown but they aren't brown lines. The only way you can tell is by looking at a tiny microscopic sign at the drivers seat that tells you the color of the line.

Overrated!! I've been to other cities in the USA and throughout the world, and, in some important ways (to me), METRO doesn't stack up. Don't get me wrong. Washington's METRO is a mostly safe, nice and clean system, but it is EXPENSIVE as hell and the wait time between trains could be more frequent, in some cases. You can talk to me all day about how much cleaner METRO is compared to NYC's subway system, but NYC's subway system wins HANDS DOWN in frequency between trains, how much service/coverage it gives the NYC area, and the COST. I'd like to see METRO travel a bit further into the Virginia suburbs. I hear there are plans to extend to Dulles airport -- this is great, but how about extending the Blue Line or Yellow Line southward to Woodbridge, or, at least, Lorton? How about extending the Orange Line westward to Manassas, or, at least, Centreville? For as much as it costs to ride the darn thing, I think it should go out further. It might help the backups on I-66 and I-95. Just a thought. Again, METRO might be safe, nice and clean, but it's not as wonderful and grand as some make it out to be.

The best in the world. Clean and efficient

Wonderful! If it was more comprehensive, it would be the best system in the world.

Clean trains, clean stations, working elevators and escalators, friendly & helpful employees, automated fare card system....This is the way to run a subway. Other cities should be trying to copy their methods.
