OK, so this service is pretty cool. You use the Dodgeball.com web site to build your network of friends. Once you have a network set up, you use your cell phone to let your network know where you are. For example, let's say you're sitting outside at the fantastic San Francisco bar Zeitgeist. You shoot a text message to Dodgeball that says "@Zeitgeist, and they shoot a text to all your friends relaying that info. But it goes farther than that. Friends of friends get be alerted (based on their preferences) of my whereabouts. You can also set "crush lists" of people you'd like to meet. If you check in a location within two blocks of that person, Dodgeball will send them an alert with your photo, inviting them to go introduce themselves (so the ball is in their court). You can turn on or off any of these features in your preferences, and obviously the whole thing hinges on having your friends on there with you. They also offer a very useful lookup feature. If I text Dodgeball "Zeitgeist?" it will immediately text back the address and phone info. It seems like a pretty cool idea, and the very beginnings of a mobile social network.
