Officer Sugar tits is not pleased with Mel. At least he made PC World's most offensive list.

From the sounds of things everyone in Hollywood knew Mel was a drunken biggot before his arrest and tirade, but was willing to turn a blind eye because he was a bankable bet at the box office, the Passion of the Crist grossed over a half a billion dollars at the box office and in rentals and sales.  A year later he couldn't get himself booked on "Good Morning Witchita" to plug his next movie.  I don't think that he is the only one who should be ashamed.

After seeing this, I guess he didn't have to get too far from himself to play "Mad Max"

Many people now find him unworthy of worshipping as an A-list movie icon, and understandably so.

It's his apparent hate of those of Jewish faith that has greatly damaged his status with the public, while the reckless drunk driving issue has been much less talked about.

If Kid Rock or a rap artist had the same drunken episode, people would still have been appalled, but I bet the negative media attention would have focused more on the celebrity's danger behind the wheel and how we need to enforce jail time for that.

My point is that a person's perceived socioeconomic background affects which crimes of theirs we find worthy of serious punishment. Driving While Intoxicated or abusing drugs illegally ("I just needed painkillers for my bad back.") is seen as more worthy of punishment when you come from a lower class background. Conversely, the crime of saying hateful things about minority groups gets punished more if you are perceived as representing the ruling class.

I would hope that each of us can recognize why both aspects of this particular drunken episode should be considered deeply troubling, regardless of our perceptions of the celebrity behind it.
