For many years it seemed like your could write 30 HR and 100 RBI beside his name at the beginning of the season and be sure he'd produce or surpass those numbers. Above average with a glove, he is one of the great players in baseball history, not just Oriole history.

Murray was consistently a threat at the plate, and was loved by Baltimoreans because of it. He was a member of 2 Baltimore World Series teams, which made him a player the city never forget. I remember how much respect was shown to him when he returned to the Orioles to hit his 500th homerun. Every day at Camden Yards was a Murray love-fest. He is definitely one of the all time greats, in baseball and as an Oriole.

While it is true that Hall of Famer Murray indeed had some fine seasons with various clubs after he left the club, he was the best first baseman in franchise history, even better than the very good Boog Powell, and was simply the best first baseman in the league from the late 70's until the mid-80's. Great player, one of the most dangerous hitters in his prime. 5 stars.
