Ben McDonald is the one who got away. He was the 1st pick in the 1989 draft, and made his debut with the Orioles that year. He pitched a CG shutout in his first major league start, and got some votes for ROY in 1990. However, Big Ben never really lived up to his potential. He was the equivalent of Mark Prior and Kerry Wood for the Cubs. He was a sure fire star, who dominated at the Olympics and in college. WIth the O's he showed flashes of greatness, but did not sustain his dominance. His final record with the O's was 58-53 in parts of 7 seasons. He spent a couple of years with the Brewers before exiting Major League baseball due to injury before he was 30.
