I heard a good story the other day with Aparicio in it as relayed by Whitey Ford. The Yanks were playing the Chisox. Whitey was pitching and Yogi Berra was catching. Nellie Fox came up and hit the first pitch for a single. Aparicio singled on one pitch. The third player hit the first pitch for a single. Ted Kluszewski hit a grand salami on the first pitch. Casey Stengel came to the mound and in the conference, asked Yogi, "How's he doing?" Yogi replied, "I don't know. I haven't seen a pitch yet."

Aparicio played 5 of his 18 ML seasons with the Orioles. He was a great player, but I only put him as a good Oriole since most of his work was done with other teams. In his time with Baltimore, he did win a World Series in 66, and had 2 Gold Gloves. He wasn't an amazing offensive player, but that was when shortstops weren't the offensive minded players they are now. He also represented the O's twice in the All Star game.

This great fielder, decent hitter, and stealer of bases was an important player on their awesome 1966 World Series winning club. He played with Baltimore for a while, and Boston at the end, but I'd regard this Hall of Famer as a White Sox player first and foremost.
