An enigmatic, sometimes chilling, often unsettling film, this is less a crime movie than an existential examination of reality. David Hemmings is brilliant as the self-absorbed, somewhat shallow photographer forced into facing what may be an inconvenient and possibly ugly truth. But what did happen? Did anything happen? These are the questions that run under the film like some kind of spooky music.
