I do not like to pay taxes. As others have mentioned if we were given the choice of paying taxes, who would? hardly anyone. I wish it were more fair. it seems like some tax brackets get stuck paying a ton. while others nothing to not much. I know we all have to so we can have the programs that come from taxes. I worry that all these years of paying into the social security if we will even get any of thoese benefits when we reach that age. especially when we have been handing it out to groups who come over here as senior citizens without paying one dime and get it for doing nothing { dare i say certain immigrants.?}but anyway I reluctantly say I know we have to but do not like it anymore than most do.

How many would pay taxes if it were optional? Very few I guess. every person has a different Opinion regarding our government, and will do whatever to hurt it if it doesn't do things the way we want it do do. So, in a nut shell, given the chance, nobody would voluntarily pay taxes. That is why it must be mandatory. The taxation system sucks and it complicated enough as to make it a nightmare. why can't we get a fair, equal tax bracket for all citizens, regarding of what they make. Now, before you place a funny vote, imagine how this nation would be if there were no taxes.

In Gods word it say's "Pay unto Caesar what is Caesar’s and pay unto the Lord what is the Lords." We have to pay taxes because it is the law of our country. I have no problems paying taxes and we should all realize that it has to be done and no amount of moaning is ever going to get it changed!!!

No matter how much we hate it we have to do it. I think it's more of a "law" than a civic duty.

It's a law of the land, and we have a duty to obey these laws.

Taxes is like my calorie intake...every time it increases it only creates additional dead weight.

Civic responsibility up until the tax rates stay fair and just. The "progressive" tax rates we are generally operating under are anything but. I pay ridiculous amounts in taxes and am FAR from rich! My responsibility ceases when the government scales unjustly confiscate larger portions of my income simply because I don't fit into a bracket with a powerful lobby or generalized pity for sloth and incompetence.

Yes, we have a duty to pay taxes. If not for that, who's going to pay for the medical treatment of illegals crowding our emergency rooms? Who's going to give that 15-year-old a monthly stipend for her illegitimate baby? Who's going to pay farmers for not producing soybeans? Who's going to subsidize the parents of legal immigrants, who never put one penny into social security but now draw full benefits? And who's going to meet the demand of educrats for more and more and more money for education so we can fix it? I'll tell you who. You are! Now get off your ass and go to work!

A civic duty? No. It is the law, and you must pay every penny or suffer incarceration. It's no longer about roads, bridges and common conveniences. There's no money for those things, even though we've never paid so much in taxes.

Taxes today are all about the imaginary "duty" of governmental bodies to play Robin Hood. To redistribute wealth. If there is a "civic duty" in the discussion, it should fall upon those who SPEND the money to do so responsibly. Carefully. Conservatively, in a non-political sense. Do you not wish you could convince me that that is being done?

We've survived runaway spending sprees in the past but they were usually attributed to democrat initiatives. To be enduring one today, with republican control of the White House, Congress and the majority of governorshipsand state legislatures, is discouraging. What will inevitably happen when the real spenders re-take the majority?

Yes. . .paving the roads, paying for those schools, taking out the trash, and killing thousands of brownskin civilians in Iraq who had nothing to do with terrorism takes real money. . .You should pay taxes. . .do I think they could be lowered a little? Sure. But I hear that from fellow citizens with buckets of credit-card bills, two mortages, a new SUV that gets 3 gallons to the mile, and a litany of questionable financial moves makes me wonder if it's is a cheap attack for those who made poor decisions. . .

It sucks, but I don't imagine there are many people who don't benefit from our government's services. Since our government provides so many services to the general public, it is necessary for all wage earning people to contribute to the government's operations. For people that complain about what the taxpayer's money is being used for, that is why voting and exercising your political voice are so important.
