I used to be pretty much opposed to these, in large part because I don't much care for them myself.
However, having a very active son in high school, his cell phone is a practical necessity for him, and for me.

I'm old school I figure, because I wouldn't want my kid taking a cell phone to school. They are a hassle for the teachers to deal with, and are easy to have stolen. If you let your kids carry these around, make sure it isn't in school.
