I can't say enough bad things about this company. They regularly do not cover a damn thing. Had a 382 dollar emergency vet visit for hives/an allergic reaction and they literally covered 52 dollars of the visit. An ear infection in the dog was called a "preexisting condition" We had already downgraded from a higher coverage that included prevention but found out they would cover a flat amount per year (dont remember what... something like 50 bucks each dog) while charging more than double that over the course of a year in premiums. It's worse than a human insurance plan and is closer to stealing. Not sure how this is legal. I'm a physician and regularly deal with insurance companies but this takes the cake and should be considered fraud. A class action lawsuit should be filed.

VPI is the worst!! Save your money, they will exclude from policy anything your pet has been to vet for in the past even an ear infection and you won't find this out until you make the first claim and they request the medical records. They rendered me no service at all and refused to refund my policy. Sales reps tell you anything to sell policy and customer service reps are not worth the free phone call.

Well, I have to recant my terrible review of VPI. It took a while and a lot of phone calls because they did not have all the paperwork and then found it. I did get paid at 90% of the cost operation plus medicine and office visits, so I will have to give VPI a better rating. Mark

My boy Diezel is a 7 month old English Bulldog, I would like to think with the full coverage and 45 dollars a month I could sleep soundly but over this last month I'm over it. Diezel has suffered from a staff infection and various hot spots, after waiting the 8 weeks for the reimbursement thinking "thank god I forked out the money for this health care" I get 3 letters from the 3 times this last month I've been to the vet and over 600+ I've spent and received 40 bucks. Hmm... well you do the math. as far as I'm concerned V.P.I Blows. you would be better paying out of pocket or finding a better insurance company.

Not worth the money I have maximum coverage which is about 50 bucks a month and have had it for my english bulldog for about a year. She has been to the vets 4 times since aquiring the insurance. One routine, 3 non routine. The most I ever recieved from them was 40 dollars for a 500+ visit... They do offer a fee schedule. However they also have a HUGE list of things that they do not cover in all breeds as well as breed specific exceptions that they will not cover. Any prior conditions are not covered and there is a 50 dollar deductible for every new condition treated by the vet. The form is fairly easy to fill out. I have never called customer service so I can't give an opinion on that. They check reaches me within about 8 weeks. Point is, if I added up 50 dollars a month for entire year thats 600 bucks. Plus all the vet bills I had to pay that weren't covered. If you do the math, your better off paying for everything out of pocket. Of course there is the question of emergency s... Read more

I was insuring both of my dogs under their "superior" plan, costing me well over $500/yr. Over the Christmas holiday my puppy had an averse reaction to being spayed and experienced internal bleeding and diarrhea. I submitted a claim for $1,157 and after 2 months, numerous "lost" forms, over 20 phone calls, and 1 denial I was offered a measly $340, less than 30% of my claim. VPI a complete waste of money and a class action lawsuit should be filed against them. They are taking advantage of people who are just trying to look out for the well being of their beloved pets. Please stay away from this company. If you want pet insurance I've had much more success with PetPlan. They're great and they have no fee schedule! Please sign this petition and urge VPI to protect the pets and families that depend on them by increasing their outdated benefit payment schedule! http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/VPI/

They do not cover enough, and payback for what they do cover is VERY POOR, and is not based on what you shelled out. We canceled our pet insurance with them.

I have had this insurance for almost 4 years for our Yorkie Peepers. The problem i am having is that everytime i submit a claim it is another $40 deductible. So if i take him 3 different times for 3 different things it costs me $120 plus, they decide what is a reasonable cost for each thing and then they tell you what they will pay. I am seriously looking for another pet insurance.

Very predictable, paid per schedule. Overall we got exactly what we expected. We've had VPI Superior for almost 4 years since Jack was a puppy. This year we had 2 TPLO surgeries, and VPI has reimbursed exactly according to their schedule, covering roughly 40% of the cost. "Could" VPI be more communicative about the status of a claim? Sure. But it's not necessary. Give it 6-8 weeks if you've done your submission correct and you'll get exactly what the schedule commits. For all insurance, it's the details. Before signing up for any policy from any company, do yourself a favor and read the fine print. There are conditions not covered, and there are limits to what's paid out - and that has nothing to do with how much a vet charges you. I've read countless emotional, irrational posts damning insurance companies for not delivering on their promise, when in fact they do exactly that, deliver on the promise they make in writing in the policy.
