I have two bulldogs and insured them with PetsBest the day I brought them home from the breeder. I took them in for a wellness check at the vet the next day and purchased a puppy package, which covered all of their shots for 6 months. PetsBest would not cover any of the costs of the puppy package because I paid for it all during my "waiting period" window. Fine, I thought, ok, chalk it up to a leanring experience. Well, one year later and over 5K in vet bills, PetsBest has officially paid $0! No matter what the condition, no matter what the explanation, they come up with unique and exotic reasons not to pay. One dog had cherry eye in one eye; so that's a pre-existing condition for the other eye. It's just a lot of silly stuff and if I could get all of my money back, I would. I would have done better to put all my premiums in the stock market and just get 10% on my money. I whole-heartedly do NOT RECOMMEND PetsBest. I was very unhappy with their service, or lack thereof.

January, 2008, my scottie was given a senior wellness check by his vet. Because of his age he was tested for Cushings. Months later he became ill and was diagnosed with early diabetes. Pets Best denied every claim for him stating Cushings was an existing disease and therefore they would not pay a dime. Fast forward the dog never developed symptoms of Cushings, did develope diabetes and developed a tumor in his lungs. Upon his passing I asked Pets Best to remove him from the policy. They instead cancelled the policy on all my dogs. And, they refuse to pay for the final bills including cremation. What a company... they certainly did not mind taking my monthly payments! I just submitted a bill for my other elder dog (not knowing they had cancelled the policy). If I pay them $425 to reinstate the policy, they will look at the $125 vet bill and see if it qualifies. Certainly is a scam company..... run.

I am shocked at the response of an insurance company that is supposed to help pets. I have had success with other pet insurance (VPI) in the past but thought with my new puppy I would try this insurance because of the offering of Holistic Care. I brought my dog in because he was having an issue on walks stopping and having to lay down; he was only 8 months old so this was strange. He also started limping. The vet suggested it could be several things, possibly Heart issue or the lamness in the leg. She suggested xrays so I took him in a week later for them assuming the insurance company would cover completly as it was ONE incident (not diagnosis I later found out). To the point, they denied the claim saying that is was pre-existing. After fighting with them I was so frustrated I cancelled service on June 12th. My vet proceeded to contact them to resolve as they researched the records Pets Best was reviewing and found that it was another leg comment in the file which was completely a different leg than the one at hand today, and therefore they were wrong. My vet was told I could re-instate and appeal. I called to re-instate and was told that I can't because I voluntarily cancelled and that I was more than welcome to create a new policy but..... THE INCIDENT WOULD BE PRE-EXISTING NOW FOR SURE! Unbelievable! Now I have a dog that desperately needs to see a specialist as the vet can't find anything clear that is wrong but he is still limping. I can't go to another insurance company because it will now be pre-existing to them too. I payed premiums to this company for what.... to now have a sick dog that I can't afford to get him the proper care, even though I had insurance in the first place. This was their mistake on reviewing the records incorrectly and jumping to a no pay on a claim because it was a leg, not caring to get in to the details as to which leg. That legally is not a pre-existing condition in that case. I will file a lawsuit against this company. I urge all to believe what I am telling you; DO NOT LOOK AT PETS BEST INSURANCE FOR YOUR ANIMALS AS IT IS NOT "BEST" BOR YOUR "PETS"!

Pets Best is truly the worst insurance I have ever had!! When claims do get paid they are only partially paid and I have to keep resubmitting information that they have! I have to call daily to get anything paid or processed. My vet hates them and is dying for me to change insurance companies. I am going to change as soon as I get my final claim paid which my vet and I have been fight with them on since 9/26/08. They will deny a claim for any reason they can think of. It is insane. I recommend you go to VPI, Petplan, almost any other company. DO CHECK ANY COMPANY OUT!! DON'T USE THIS ONE!!

Had Pets Best for 4 months after being recommended by my Vet. After my dog came down with mange my Vet and Pets Best assurred me it was covered. After filing a claim and being rejected, both my Vet and myself followed up with them, till they finally agreed that they would pay the claim. A check arrived several weeks later for 50 dollars not the 320.00 they were supposed to pay. When I inquired about why they had only paid 50.00 they said that was the maximun benefit for the problem. When I asked them for a list of benefits and excludions they said thou one exisited I could not have a copy. I dropped the coverage at that time, and reported them to the Kansas Insurance Commissioner. My Vet also quit recommending them to her customers. There is a term used in the Insurance Industry for companies like Pets Best its called not operating in good faith. If you are considering pet insurance, and do not want to pay for coverage that does not pay claims. Avoid this company, they will tell you anything to get you enrolled, and then use every excuse in the book to not pay claims. Pets Best is the worst insurance company in this industry.

I was very disappointed with Pets Best. They just find/make up reasons why they won't cover your claim, and ignore even a Vet's not explaining your pets injury/illness. We are out $200 in insurance premiums, and they didn't cover a dime of our $250 vet bill. We are just going to budget a "pet emergency fund" just like our human and house emergency fund. At least that way we aren't out premiums for covereage they apparently aren't going to provide.

I started the illness coverage for my five cats in February of this year. One of our cats had just passed away and the huge vet bills we incurred trying to save her scared me. I have looked into pet insurance off and on over the last eight years and was disappointed in the offerings, until now. Pets best pays 80% of your vet bills after you meet the deductible per incident. I chose the plan with the $75 deductible.
