The Three Stooges 5

I have often heard that females don't like The Three Stooges. I guess I am the exception because I think the Stooges are hilarious. I have always had an admiration for an actor or actress ability to perform slapstick comedy. To me, the Stooges were the innovators and no one has ever been able to top that. This weekend, I went and saw the Three Stooges movie they made and thought those guys did a great job of emulating the spirit of the original Stooges.

I think one of the aspects that is overlooked in the original film shorts is that in some of the better Stooge episodes there is a lot of hidden political messages of the day. I also think many people overlook what good actors the guys were. Slapstick is a difficult genre to be in and very few have come close to achieving the Stooges charm. I know there are a ton of Moe and Curly fans out there, but my favorite was always Larry. His facial expressions are priceless and I like how he is always caught in the middle. LOL-I used to always feel that way. I also want to give some credit to Shemp. Many people didn't know that Shemp was actually part of the original act with Moe and Larry when they were the Stooges of a guy named Ted Healy (I learned all of this in a documentary I saw, I am not sure I have ever seen a Ted Healy film) and Shemp decided to move on and that is when Curly joined the group. After Curly began to have health problems (the last few Curly shorts should a huge decline in his comedic timing), Shemp returned and while the Stooges were slightly past their prime at that point, there still were some really good episodes. The Joe and Curly Joe episodes I won' t comment on, lol.

The Three Stooges 1

I don't have anything personally against them. But I don't understant how someone can watch it. They say guys really like them and I don't think that is too good. It never seemed funny to me. The station here has decided to play them when no one else does anymore.

The Three Stooges 5

I watched this several years ago on AMC. It was a great program. My two favorite characters were Moe and Curly. I also liked Larry and Shemp but I didn't care much for Joe.

Shemp replaced Curly because Curly was too ill to continue starring in the Three Stooges. But Curly did have a cameo in one of Shemp's episodes. When Shemp died of a heart attack in 1955, Joe Besser replaced him.

Moe would constantly slap and poke the other stooges. I'm not certain but I think that Moe Howard was the inspiration for the 2nd Doctor(Patrick Troughton) in Doctor Who. If I'm right, it wasn't a good idea. Moe was fantastic in the Three Stooges but not in Doctor Who.

The Three Stooges 5

To be fair, The Three Stooges are no more television characters than anyone who has been in a televised movie. Because most of us never saw them in vaudeville or in their Columbia short subjects ( the motion picture version of the sit-com ), we only think of them in TV terms. I am a fan! They make me laugh! The greatest testimonial I have ever received was when my high school principal told me "Every time I see those idiots, I think of you."
