Barney Fife 5

Vain, full of himself, clumsy, yet loyal and dedicated to duty. But the most important thing is he is funny while being all of these.

Barney was GREAT!  His additude, expressions, clumsiness etc. He made the show what it was!  After the 5th season when he left the show,  Andy Griffith would never be the same.

There once was a deputy named Fife who carried a gun and a knife, the gun was all dusty, the knife was all rusty and he never caught a crook in his life.

The best of the TV sidekicks!

When all the votes are counted Barney should be at the top of this list. Is there anyone who doesn't recognize his genius?

Deputy Barney Fife in "Andy Griffith" was absolutely one of the most memorable characters in television sitcom history. He established a genre and added words to the language.
