I really hate this dog food! First of all, we bought it without researching the ingredients (shame on us), thinking it would be a good in between of dry and wet food. We had just found this dog starving by the side of a country road obviously having been dropped off there by some jerk a few days earlier, and it looked like he'd been standing there the whole time waiting for his owner to come back. So we wanted to get him some really nice food that would make him feel happy and loved. and thought this was a perfect choice. He ate it up like crazy for a week, untill we found out how bad it is for dogs, with all the sugar and preservatives and throw away ingredients. Then we tried to slowly switch to healthy dry food, but he won't eat it. If it isn't soft, he won't eat it! He's been totally spoiled by the Moist and Meaty crap, and we are going through heck trying to find food he will eat! I would advise completely against this food as main food source, and even as a treat if you have a finicky dog, because they will become hooked on it and demand nothing else afterwards! Wish me luck on finding a dry food he will accept after eating this junk for so long!

A month ago this product it was around $13. Today it was over $17 at the same store. The shelf was stocked with the new packaged version and a couple older boxes were still on the shelf. The old box claims: "Beef is the number 1 ingredient". This is missing from the new package. The old packages lists beef first in the ingredients. The new package now lists "beef byproducts" as the first ingredient.I bought the older boxes and will now need to find something else to feed my dogs.Shame on you, Purina. Price gouging and ingredient cheapening all in one move. Guess what? People aren't stupid.

I fed it to my toy chihuahua and he really didn't care for it.but It wasn't bad or anything.

This is the only dog food that my little dog will eat. I am having a hard time finding the meat w/o cheese in the stores. Many stores have discontinued the product. I understand that Purina is changing the appearance of the box. I don't care what the box looks like, the fact that it is nutritious and taste good is all that matters. Please hurry and get it back in the stores. I'm on my last box! Panic!!!!!! Thank you.

I have never had a dog not like Moist & Meaty. I don't know about nutritional value but they think it tastes great and eat it up! I'd give it as a snack or to spice things up a bit.

There is nothing wrong with giving this to your dog as a "food topper," but there is absolutely no reason to give this to them as a full meal. Many dogs are finicky eaters, so using is a food topper is a great way to get them the nutrients they need. However, moist and meaty contains mostly high fructose corn syrup and grain. Its draw is that it contains "real beef," but don't think that means it has sirloin ground up in there. It has beef parts, but definitely nothing a human would ever eat. Legally, a company can say a product contains "beef" when it has ANY part of a cow in its ingredients. I work at a dog boutique and have a broad knowlege of dog nutrition. I would definitley reccomend using a food like merrick, canidae, eagle pack (holistic select) or innova. Sure, its a little more pricey, but its worth it.

The #2 ingredient is HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, which is also fed to humans in all types of junk food (soft drinks, candy, etc.) and is absolute poison. This ingredient should be banned as the body cannot detect its input (at least sugar is detected and we get a "filled" feeling). Ahorrible dog and human food!

Main ingredients are chicken, brewers rice, corn gluten meal, and poultry by product meal.

it isn't the best option but it does contain real beef. which is more than Alpo, Dog chow, or Beneful can say. I would not recommend it alone but a few sprinkles on top of a premium dog food makes it that much more desirable for any finicky pooch

This food stinks, after my dog ate this food he then had kidney problems and low calcium. He also has problems with his mouth, his teeth are falling out. Also everytime we put him on his metication he is fine, but right after it wares off he always just lays around and is very lazy. Also when he makes a bow movment he poop is not runny but when we would pick it up it would be very mushy. From my family and I's point of veiw this food deserves a zero rating!! (Too bad I can not rate this item zero stars!!

This is the equivalent of feeding nothing but junk food to your children.

My 5 year old Siberian Husky ate this food for 4 years. He was very finicky and I was grateful to find something he would eat. A few weeks ago he stopped wanting it. I wouldn't change foods because I was scared about all the recalls and believed this was safe since he seemed okay. We put some shredded cheese on top to get him to eat it - he just picked at it. Four days ago he dropped dead at only 5 yrs old. I am sick. He was my baby. Don't know if this will end up as part of a recall, but he was a healthy dog..had him evaluated a few months back. Would recommend that no one uses this dog food.

Horrible food. Junk food for dogs. Feed this to your dogs and you are going to have many medical and dental problems. Here are the Ingredients: Chicken, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Wheat Flour, Soybean Grits, Soybean Flour, Water, Corn Syrup, Brewers Condensed SolublesOther than the chicken(80% water, look for chicken meal) every ingredient in this is a negative.Do not buy any food with corn in it: this food has corn syrup twice! (low solubility and rotten teeth)Do not buy any food with Wheat (very high allergen to dogs)This food has it!Do not buy any food with Soy (again.. another big negative.. high allergen): this food has it twice! If you have this food... Run don't walk to the pet store and buy some of the top 20 rated foods on this site.Keep only enough to make a one week transition to another food, and bury the rest.

Is this even a dog food? Corn syrup as a second ingredient (and a seventh), artificial coloring, and ethoxyquin as a preservative, thats just scary! Not to mention that their source of meat is not even in meal form, so once you take out the water it is going to be the seventh or eigth ingredient (and look, thats right next to their ingredient of...Water!). You therefore have Corn Syrup as a first ingredient!!! This food is not better than feeding your dog cotton candy its whole life. Plus, they use Ethozyquin as a preservative, which has been known to promote kidney cancer animals in quantities over 5ppm (its allowed in 150ppm in dog food). Horrible food and an insult to the pet food industry!
ldg28 03/15/2007
sugar as the second ingredient can't be good at all.

Dogs love it (especially when you look at the ingredients, because sugar is the 2nd ingredient). However, it isn't really healthy, so I wouldn't give it to the dogs as a main meal all the time (I add some to the dry food.. our dogs are very picky.

If you don't mind a little "junk food", Moist and Meaty, makes a very convenient training treat. PROs Pretty high value (at least the beef/cheese flavor is) Small size with no chopping Can be broken into even smaller pieces while feeding Stays soft for days. Skinny threaded shape. Very quick to consume. Doesn't make the dog choke when the dog takes it with its nose pointed up like kibble does Balanced (but see below) ration so not so high fat. Can replace a portion of regular ration. Not high sodium Shelf stable Not greasy. Doesn't make your fingers smell like kibble First ingredient is meat CONs If you call your rewards "cookies" you're being more precise than you'd think. It says soft the way soft packaged cookies do...corn syrup (2nd ingredient!) Contains soy Contains dye Comes only in big boxes. Inside the box are pouches that are still a LOT if only used as treats.

I wish there was such a thing as a zero rating...this food cannot be healthy to any dog... ingredients: Beef, high fructose corn syrup, soybean grits, soybean flour, water, wheat flour, corn syrup, calcium carbonate, brewers condensed solubles, phosphoric acid, salt, sorbic acid (added to prevent spoilage), calcium propionate (added to prevent spoilage), DL-Methionine, choline chloride, zinc sulfate, ferrous sulfate, vitamin supplements (E, A, B-12, D-3), ethoxyquin (a preservative), added color (Red 40). Corn syrup? (sugar) soybean grits? (waste product) Ethoxyquin? (a carcinogenic preservative) Artificial colors???
