This approach often overshoots its mark. Cyranos throughout the ages have rarely known when it's time to stop writing and initiate something more. This is because the poets and songwriters who are good at what they do usually don't have a lot of confidence in other areas of their life. So a lot of great poems and songs originate in a romantic interest who doesn't respond or even know all the fuss is about her. But if your sweetie is also a poet herself, this approach might just work. Just don't assume that someone who doesn't care for poetry or song will be won over by this approach.

Good AND bad. Bad if the song is written to the girl you want to lay with. GOOD if played to her, but you TELL her it's about SOMEONE ELSE. Like her friend, maybe. Or even some pretend girl at the office you're pretending to have had a pretend crush on for the last seven years. Oh, and after you read this poem or sing this song to her, tell her you're only sharing it with her because she's a true friend. And that you have a rule that you NEVER NEVER NEVER have sexual or romantic relationships with friends.

Probably works a lot better than trying to sound like "Coolio" or whoever...

This is ok. It makes you use part the gray matter that ordinarily we don't overtax in our usual lifestyles.

I guess it depends...
If the guy picked up poetry JUST because the object of his affection was into it, and NOT because he actually has a passion and knack for it; then yea, it's dumb. If he's actually into writing it, regardless of her...than I don't see the problem.

This makes me think of the infamous scene in Animal House where Bluto smashes the wussy guy's guitar.
