Elaine S. Edwards is a lovely lady who graced the Govenor's Mansion of Louisiana for many years. She did a good job of filling in for Senator Ellender remaining months in his term following his death. Mrs. Edwards and Govenor Edwards were divorced in 1989, over a decade before the former govenor was convicted of charges concerning riverboat gambling applications during his last term 1992-1996.

Senator Ellender died and Elaine's hubby, the crook, Governor Edwin Edwards, appointed her to fill out the remainder of Ellender's term until a successor was elected.
